Kadarka 2022

Bott Frigyes

Tasting Notes:

100% Kadarka

Južnoslovenská wine region, village of Mužla. Grapes harvested from vineyards planted on the southern side of the Mužla hills in the geographical center of the triangle formed by the Hron and Danube rivers. The soil is of volcanic origin, clay-loam with a high limestone content, rich in minerals.

Spontaneous fermentation in the form of a hamburger (three different forms of processed grapes were gradually added to a 1000-liter fermentation vessel over 3 to 4 weeks until the fermentation was complete), complete malolactic fermentation, the wine matured in oak barrels on fine sediment after racking. Produced in a traditional method without the use of selected yeast, enzymes, or other additives, bottled without clarification and filtration.

In the glass, the wine presents itself with a cherry-red color and a purple rim to the edge of the glass. Seductive, playful aroma of red fruit, with ripe cherries, cherries, currants, raspberries, ripe mulberries, touches of spice, and minerals on the nose. Medium-bodied with good structure, excellently integrated acidity highlighting freshness and juiciness. Smooth velvety tannins enhance the wine's elegance. On the palate, pure fruitiness, primary red stone fruit and bubbles, excellent drinkability, long fruity-spicy finish.

About Winery

Bott Frigyes is known as absolute top producer in Slovakia

The vineyards are located on the border with Hungary, specifically on southern slopes of the Muzsla Hills, in the heart of the historic wine region in the geographical triangle defined by the River Garam and the Danube. The soil is made up of a clay layer on top of a volcanic bedrock, rich in limestone and minerals. Frigyes recently transitioned from organic viticulture to biodynamic methods in his vineyards.

Frigyes specializes on clean, light and grape-typical wines that capture the essence of traditional Hungarian and Central European grape varieties bestowed by the wine region: Furmint, Hárslevelu, Juhfark, Kékfrankos and Kadarka. The wines spontaneously ferment and are aged in Hungarian oak barrels between 6 to 12 months. While some of the wines undergo careful filtration, all of them receive a light touch of sulphur during the bottling process.
